Tendo como personagens principais 4 irmãos, uma mãe e uma avó. Este livro é um daqueles livros que nunca mais nos esquecemos da história quando o acabamos de ler, ainda mais quando se baseia numa história verídica. (que muitos alegam ser a história da própria autora).
Sendo narrada na primeira pessoa por um dos quatro irmãos, Cathy. Não conseguimos deixar de imaginar o que faríamos estivéssemos no seu lugar. Definitivamente é uma história à qual não ficamos indiferentes.
Gostaria de o comprar mas infelizmente não existe neste momento à venda. Os livros em português que passam de mão em mão são de uma edição do círculo de leitores dos anos 80. Claro que se o visse à venda como usado, comprava-o.
CONTROVERSO
Tendo sido publicado em 1979, tornou-se um best seller mas com muita controvérsia. E devido a um acontecimento na história, o livro acabou por ser banido em alguns lugares em tempos diferentes.
Em 1983 foi banido de todas as escolas devido às suas passagens ofensivas e conteúdo sexual. Em 1994, foi banido da Oconee County school libraries.
Dos 5 livros da Saga, na minha opinião, os dois primeiros são os melhores. O segundo fez-me chorar, talvez por já me sentir tão próxima das personagens.

Tratando-se de uma adaptação do livro é apenas isso mesmo: uma adaptação. As bases da história encontram-se no filme, mas muitos acontecimentos foram omitidos, outros modificados e até o final é outro. No filme creio que quiseram dar um final onde os maus são sempre punidos pelos erros e isso não acontece no livro. Além disso, a parte controversa do livro não foi inserida no filme, creio que de modo a que o filme agradasse a todas as audiências.
